Job Title: Part-Time Administrative Assistant
Location: Primarily remote. Occasional in-person meetings or events in Central Virginia.
Hours: Approximately 10 hours per week
Compensation: $15 to $17 per hour

About the Organization

The Afghan Association of Central Virginia (AACVA) is a nonprofit organization supporting Afghan individuals and families through community-based assistance, resource navigation, advocacy, and outreach. Our work includes financial assistance intake, referrals, volunteer coordination, and community communications.

Position Overview

AACVA is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented Part-Time Administrative Assistant to support our growing operations. This role is critical to ensuring accurate intake, documentation, reporting, and communication with clients and volunteers. The ideal candidate is bilingual in English and Dari, tech-savvy, discreet with sensitive information, and comfortable working independently in a remote environment.

Required Language Skills

  • Fluent in English and Dari (read, write, and speak)

  • Pashto proficiency is a strong plus, but not required

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive, review, and manage intake forms, applications for financial assistance, and other client requests

  • Collect and document sensitive client information with accuracy, discretion, and confidentiality

  • Follow up with clients as needed to complete intake or clarify information

  • Support data entry, tracking, and reporting related to services provided and people assisted

  • Assist with organizing and documenting information submitted by volunteers

  • Generate basic reports using Google Forms, Google Sheets, or Excel

  • Support communications and outreach, including:

    • Creating simple graphics or flyers in Canva

    • Assisting with social media posting and updates

    • Supporting email or written communications as needed

  • Provide general administrative support to AACVA leadership and programs

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum education: High School Diploma

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks accurately

  • High level of comfort handling confidential and sensitive information

  • Tech savvy with proficiency in:

    • G-Suite; especially Google Forms and Google Sheets / Excel (including basic reporting)

    • Canva, SquareSpace, GoDaddy web editing

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work independently, manage time well, and meet deadlines

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with nonprofits, community organizations, or refugee/immigrant communities

  • Familiarity with social media platforms and basic content posting

  • Pashto language skills

Work Environment

  • Mostly remote and flexible scheduling

  • Occasional in-person meetings, trainings, or events may be required

  • Must have reliable internet access and a personal computer

  • This position is classified as an independent contractor (1099) role

  • Hours are limited and dependent on organizational needs and funding
